Creating Mindfully & Intentionally
I have always loved Chinese New Year, it’s my favourite celebration of the year. Maybe it's the many sweets and snacks that are readily available at every house, coupled with the excitement whenever it comes to playing Blackjack.
The festivity also means getting a second chance at starting the year fresh! The extra month and a half is great for a chore-procrastinator like me to get my spring-cleaning done.
In previous years, we lacked proper storage for our sewing supplies and most of our fabric ended up in tight drawers or boxes. After adding more shelves to our room last year, we made sure to reorganise our fabric stash while spring-cleaning. This was also an opportunity for us to take note of the fabric we have for the year ahead.
We pulled everything out, sorted it by type and rearranged their placements. After a couple of hours, this is how our 4 drawers look like after:
- Deadstock and recycled fabric ranging from curtains, bedsheets & pillowcases, and other fabric which were kindly donated
- Fabrics purchased off the shelves
- Old clothing pieces from our community. They include denim jeans, skirts, vests and dresses.
- Lining material and heavier fabrics
Mindful Consumption
It was nice knowing that only about 30% of our fabric was purchased off the shelves. The remaining 70% was donated to us by people in our community.
In 2025, we made it a point to buy less. Even while we brought back custom orders, we were selective in our fabric choices. On top of that, we only bought small quantities and only purchased more if there was a demand.
This not only helped us manage our storage, but gave us more space to explore other types of textiles that are often overlooked.
But we still LOVE shopping for fabrics.
2026 Goals
It’s highly unlikely that we will completely stop purchasing fabrics off the shelves. Simply because there are fabrics that make us excited to create something, or designs that YOU would love to turn into something functional.
The goal for us isn’t to replace, but to integrate - To integrate recycled materials into our catalogue, or even into our products. We want to challenge the idea that new and recycled textiles can complement each other to create pieces that last through time.
That means buying less, and working more with what we have. Let’s be real, it’s easier said than done. We live in a consumeristic society where it often feels like what we have is never enough, like shopping for clothes!
BUT, feeling abundant cannot exist when there’s fear of scarcity.
The key to abundance is meeting limited circumstances with unlimited thoughts. More often than not, we have enough. This first blog post is not just a commitment to consume less for the brand, but it's also a reminder for us to be intentional with the way we consume things, even in our daily lives - the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the media we consume...
When we start to realise that we have enough, we too, become enough for ourselves. That's when magic happens!
Remember, YOU are enough.
